Is It Normal for a 4-Year-Old to Mock His Mother?
Tonight, my son picked out three books for me to read to him before bed. The first one he considered, then rejected, is called Jack’s Talent.
“We haven’t read that in a long time,” I said. “Do you remember what it’s about?”
“Yes. Jack doesn’t think he has a talent.”
“But he does. Do you remember what his talent is?”
“Remembering.”
“Yes. He has such a good memory, just like you do. You blow me away with everything that you remember.”
“Yes, but you have ‘pregnancy brain.’”
According to my 4-year-old son, the only reason I’m impressed with his memory is that my own is currently damaged.
Is it normal for a 4-year-old to taunt and tease his mother?
Note: Jack’s Talent (2007) is a children’s book, targeted to 4- to 8-year-olds, written by Maryann Cocca-Leffler.
